6 Performance requirements for closures and attachment points
6.1 Permeation resistance of closures
The closure shall fulfil the requirement of EN 943-1:2015+A1:2019 for resistance to permeation by chemicals, with the 15 chemicals given in Table 2.
6.2 Attachment points
The attachment point(s) shall be tested according to EN 14594:20 18, 6.6.
Where an attachment point for a lifeline is fitted, it shall withstand a pull force of not less than 1 000 N.
The attachment point for other items of equipment shall withstand a pull force of not less than 250 N.
7 Performance requirements for the whole gas-tight chemical protective suit
7.1 General
Gas-tight chemical protective suits shall fulfil the following requirements when tested as a complete assembly. The outside of the gas-tight chemical protective suit shall not have any pockets or features similar to pockets. Pockets and/or features inside the gas-tight chemical protective suit are allowed.
Type la-ET:
The gas-tight chemical protective suit shall allow wearing of the compressed air breathing apparatus, and if required head protection, inside.
NOTE The inside of the backpack (hump) is vulnerable to damage by the breathing apparatus. Experience has shown that the application of reinforcement to the inside mitigates this potential problem, (e.g. double layer of suit material or additional other material).
Type ib-ET:
The gas-tight chemical protective suit shall allow wearing of the compressed air breathing apparatus outside, and if required head protection.
7.2 Leak tightness (static inflation test)
All suits shall be tested according to 150 17491-1:2012, Method A2 both before and alter practical performance test according to 8.1 The pressure drop during the course of the 6-mm test shall not be greater than 300 Pa (3 mbar).
8 Test methods
81 Practical performance test
8.1.1 General
All requirements 01 EN 943-1:2015+A1:ZU19, 6.Z apply.
Four tests shall be carried out. For enhanced robustness suits two sample suits shall be tested, each being tested by two test subjects. For regular robustness suits two test subjects shall each test two new samples suits (four suits in total). If a suit passes on a rougher flooring surface, then it shall be deemed to have passed on a floor as specified above. If a suit doesn’t pass on a rougher surface then the test shall be repeated on a floor as specified above. c) Performing a mechanical task according to EN 943-1:2015+A1:2019, 6.2.2 c]. 8.1.4 Information to be recorded Information according to EN 943-1:2015+A1:2019, 6.2.3 shall be recorded. The pass/fail criteria of EN 943-1:2015+A1:2019, 5.16 shall apply. 8.2 Resistance to flame When tested in accordance with EN 13274-4:2001, Method 3, modified to comply with the flame exposures in Table 3, the chemical protective clothing material shall not form droplets and shall prove to be“self-extinguishing”, it shall not be of a highly flammable nature and when tested shall not continue to burn for more than 5 s after removal from the flame. The size of the specimen should be at minimum 105 mm x 105 mm. Three samples shall be tested with the outer surface exposed horizontally to the flame. To determine the level of performance, the leak tightness of the test specimens shall be determined after the flame test. The tested area of the specimen shall be clamped in the apparatus shown in EN 14325:2018 and the pressure in the test pot reduced by 1 kPa. The difference in the change of pressure between a new specimen and a specimen after flame testing shall not exceed 100 Pa in 1 min. BS EN 943-2 pdf download.
